Kuwabara's father (桑原 さん, Kuwabara-san) is the father of Kazuma and Shizuru Kuwabara and he only appears in volume 19, page 63, which is in the last part of the whole manga.
Appearance[]
He resembles a much older version of Kuwabara with sunglasses, a ponytail, and a cigarette. He seems much more cheerful, reserved, and laid-back compared to his son.
History[]
Epilogue / All or Nothing[]
Kuwabara's father only appeared in one scene in Chapter 170 of the original manga, but it was quite a significant appearance. It turned out that Mr. Kuwabara knew a lot about the goings-on between the Human World and Demon World. He seems to have some knowledge of the different worlds as he comments "Spirit World finally grew a set" (much to the shock of his son), but it is unknown if he is a psychic like his children.
In fact, the main reason this came up was because Yusuke arranged for Yukina to stay within the Kuwabara household after Genkai's passing, to which Mr. Kuwabara agreed. Regardless, the casual and even rude approach Mr. Kuwabara took to the situation is still surprising. It is hard to say how much Kuwabara's father knew about spirits, demons, and psychics, but he was able to provide valuable insight.
He noted that multicultural understanding and communication would be key to forming proper relationships between the Human World and Demon World. He also pointed out to Kazuma that even though Yukina is pretty, she, as a demon, would be susceptible to prejudice and it will be his responsibility to stand up for her. Spirit Detective or not, Mr. Kuwabara is an adult with a lot of life experience, so he knows how to give advice to his children when they need it.
All or Nothing[]
In the 2018 OVA, he just appeared in a cameo scene where his son told him to leave Sarayashiki town and seek refuge. Fortunately, Yusuke ended up pushing the blue button, which ended up being the correct one. As a result, Yusuke ended up successfully completing the mission, and both Spirit World and Human World were safe and sound once more.
Trivia[]
- He is also one of the few people to call Kuwabara by his given name (for obvious reasons).
