The Makai Insects are minor antagonists during the Spirit Detective Saga's Maze Castle arc. They are parasitic-like demons who reside in the darkest part of Spirit World. They were controlled by Suzaku as a way to cause chaos on Earth.
Characteristics[]
According to Botan, The Makai Insects can enter the body of anyone who is depressed, causing them to act in a destructive manner. But the insects cannot be seen by humans (other than Psychics). Those who are affected are deemed insane.
Makai Whistler[]
However, despite their ability to travel from Spirt World to Earth and cause chaos, Botan revealed that a special flute called the Makai Whistler is needed to not only control the insects but allow them to survive outside Spirit World as the Whistler allows the user to send out a certain frequency which allows the insects to survive. Once the flute is destroyed, The Makai Insects also die.
