Kazuya Hatanaka (畑中かずや Hatanaka Kazuya?) is Kurama's stepfather, having married widow Shiori Minamino. He has a son named Shuichi Hatanaka.
History[]
In the manga, Kazuya met Shiori during the time she was at the hospital and the two started dating. In the anime, however, he is first mentioned in the Chapter Black Saga by Kurama. Eventually, the marriage occurred and the married couple left for their honeymoon. Kazuya lives together with his family in a big house.
He seems to get along well with his stepson, as in the manga Kurama said he didn't fear to leave his mother alone because she had Kazuya. Also, in the anime, Kurama refers to him as dad in a phone call he had with his mother.
Epilogue[]
During this mission of Team Urameshi, Yusuke informs everyone to evacuate and the rest of the team go to Sarayashiki city in the Human World to do the same. Here, both Kazuya and Shiori Hatanaka made a cameo when Kurama helped them to seek refuge.
