Yusuke's Despair is the thirty-eighth episode of season 2 of YuYu Hakusho. It aired on January 8, 1994 in Japan and July 3, 2004 in the United States.
Short Summary[]
Yusuke is reminded of his childhood life with Keiko when she cries out his name during the battle. Genkai possesses Pu and suggests that Younger Toguro should kill one of Yusuke's friends in order to increase his power exponentially. The Younger Toguro chooses Kuwabara to die at his hands.
Detailed Summary[]
The episode begins with Younger Toguro punching Yusuke to the third level of the stadium. Younger Toguro then berates Yusuke on not giving him a good fight at 100%. Younger Toguro starts using his soul sucking powers to kill everyone in the stadium expect Yusuke's friends, and the weaker demons that can't defend themselves make a run for it only for Sakyo to trap them all inside, telling them that their lives are worth less than the tickets they got, and that no one but the winners get out alive. The demons are not going down without a fight and decide to attack Younger Toguro, only for Younger Toguro to kill some of them with ease and compare him and Yusuke's disagreeable tempers, which causes Yusuke to punch him in the head. Everyone is impressed with the amount of Spirit Energy he is creating. Yusuke starts punching Toguro repeatedly and the demons switch to Yusuke's side. As Yusuke and Younger Toguro fight, he starts beating Yusuke to death. Keiko starts remembering her and Yusuke's past.

Anime Notes[]
- The former human members of Team Ichigaki appear briefly with Ryo in particular being affected by Toguro's Soul Absorption. This is their final appearance in the series. They were also the only other known defeated participants besides Chu, Touya, Rinku, and Jin to be showcased having been watching Yusuke's match in the anime. The manga also showcased Suzuki, Bui, Risho, Dr. Ichigaki, and Shishiwakamaru observing the match, but none of them make appearances in the anime.
