The Battle of Father and Son is the twelfth episode of season 4 of YuYu Hakusho. It aired on November 5, 1994 in Japan and February 18, 2006 in the United States.

Yomi battles his son, Shura, in the preliminaries, and his overwhelming power coerces Shura to eventually concede.

Detailed Summary

Yomi battles his son Shura in the preliminaries, and his overwhelming power coerces Shura to eventually concede. But Shura does not surrender so easily and, after a hard battle (on Shura's part), he finally decides to accept his loss. Yomi really wanted Shura to fight against Yusuke in order to see his son grow. With this ended, the preliminaries conclude. In a special announcement before the start of the main tournament, the main sponsor, Yusuke, declares that the tournament should be held every few years, much like a presidential election, to promote fair rule of the Demon World, and that all fighters must obey the winner's orders during his or her period of ruling.

Anime Notes

• While in the manga the battle between Nekotama and Yusuke is not shown, this is different in the anime. Nekotama begins by releasing his demon energy which takes on a blueish color when it leaves his body. He uses his giant form a technique in order to increase the size of his whole body during the match. He also can lengthen his claws. Still, and similar to the manga, he is quickly defeated by Yusuke.
