Enki (煙鬼 Enki?) is a character from the manga/anime series Yu Yu Hakusho. He was an ally of Yusuke Urameshi, like the rest of Raizen's Friends. After he fought against Yomi, he won the Demon World Tournament.[1] As Demon World's new king, Enki decreed that no mischief shall be made in the human world. He is married to Kokou, another of Raizen's old friends.
Appearance[]
Enki is a large human-like demon who is both muscular and fat. He has yellowish-brown hair and a goatee beard, reddish skin and two drill-like small horns protruding from his forehead. He wears a white tank top and blackish-blue jeans. Even among other demons Enki is large, standing around ten feet tall. In the manga, his body is smaller and less muscular, his face is wider and more square shaped, and his hair is black and curlier. Ultimately, his manga incarnation appears a bit more "cartoony".

Unlike many demons, including his wife for that matter, Enki is surprisingly laid-back. He is very honest, honorable and polite, which is in stark contrast to almost every demon seen. He treats his opponents with respect and courtesy. However, this is not to be confused for naivety or foolishness as though not much was seen of him, he showed a very high level of intelligence. Enki is also very patient, seeing as how he is able to put up with his overbearing wife, Kokou. Despite his reserved personality, he does become hot-blooded at the prospect of a fight.

All Raizen's Friends gathered for the Demon World Tournament.
After the death of Raizen and the announcement of the Demon World Tournament, Enki and his feisty wife, Kokou, arrived at Raizen's kingdom in order to pay their respect to the deceased king. They also saluted Yusuke, Raizen's son. Following the arrival of several more of Raizen's old friends, Enki revealed that they all came out of seclusion in order to participate in the upcoming tournament, all vowing to make the tournament so brutal and tough that Raizen would roll over in his grave in jealous rage. In a show of power, Enki and the others simultaneously powered up their energy, creating a spectacle visible as far as Yomi and Mukuro's kingdoms.
Though none of Enki's fights are directly shown, he is seen nonchalantly smoking his pipe on top of a pile of his defeated opponents during the preliminary round.
After Yusuke's loss to Yomi, it is revealed that Enki defeated the weakened Mukuro in the final round. As a result, demons were obligated to leave humans in peace, as per Enki's new law. Enki also stated that his position of power would last only three years, at which point a new tournament would take place.
Epilogue[]
In the manga, Enki is shown to be a somewhat lazy ruler, usually seen in bed relaxing next to his wife. He is also seen attending Koenma's party.

Enki and Kokou in the All or Nothing special.
In this OVA, Shunjun appeared before Yusuke. When a radical Spirit World religious sect took over the Gates of Judgement, and both Koenma and Botan have been held hostages, they demanded that all demons leave the Human World. So, Yusuke called Demon World ruler Enki and requested his help. While Enki was unable to help directly because of his bad back, he was able to use his power to coerce Hiei into aiding Yusuke. Hiei vowed to win the next tournament.
Powers and abilities[]
Though not much of Enki was shown, he is one of the strongest demons in Demon World. He is an Upper S Class Demon. Yomi in particular, commented on his power as being very close to his own, however, Enki himself admitted he, as well as all of Raizen's old friends, were out of practice. He beat out all of the other demons in the Demon World Tournament including Yomi and Mukuro, although Yomi was extremely weakened from his fight with Yusuke, while Mukuro expended a lot of energy in her fight with Natsume, and the tournament itself was light-hearted and friendly which had made her weaker because she was not filled with hatred.
Abilities[]

- Energy Concealment: It is the ability to control and reduce the latent energy of a user, which can be attained after an intense training, seclusion and if the user is an adept martial artist. Enki proved to have great power within himself when he and Raizen's Friends released their true powers, thus proving their excitement to enter the Demon World Tournament.
- Flight: This is a special ability where the user manipulates their Energy so that they can levitate or fly.

- Superhuman Strength: As an Upper S Class fighter who also trained with Raizen, he possesses immense physical strength, far more advanced than that of any of his kind. He can effortlessly defeat a bunch of opponents and pile them all up during the preliminary round.
- Super Speed: is the ability of moving at great speed, which creates the illusion of Teleportation. During the Three Kings Saga, it becomes a more common technique among users, used for more advanced movement and dodging, and as a base for other movement techniques with all types of Energy.
Trivia[]
- Enki is the first King to have complete rule of Demon World. Even Mukuro and Yomi become his subordinates.
- It is also hinted that his reign was made permanent and the Demon World Tournament was made as a replacement for the Dark Tournament but with way more regulations.
